Where are impatiens seeds?

I've been searching for seeds on impatiens and new guineas all summer. They obviosly drop seeds because babies are coming up nearby. But I can't find seeds for the life of me. When flowers fade they just seem to disappear!

And how about verbena? When flowers fade hairy little sticks remain. What part is the seed? I bought a homestead purple one this year which is gorgeous and supposed to be perennial here, but I'd like to have some seeds in case it doesn't survive winter.

Obviously I'm a novice at this. I've collected lots of seeds from nicotiana and melampodium. And I finally found a pod on nasturtium. I have four big plants and have been looking for seeds all summer, but finally found my first pod. I think it might be ready to snip today - it's light tan. Is it ripe now? I'm afraid if I wait too long it will fall off and I won't be able to find it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Karen
