What is the best way to germinate old seeds?

Before we moved, 2 yrs ago, I gathered just a few seed pods of my favorite flowering bush-caesalpinia pulcherrima,'The pride of Barbados'.

Of the seeds I planed, only 2 came up. Now, I have just a few seeds left, and can't afford to wast them!

Reading through this forum, I found several ways to germinate seeds, but how do you know what way works best for what type of seed?

Nip & soak, Paper towel & plastic bag, plant & pray?
