Daylily pods and seeds

Posted by alpine_flower 5A (My Page) on

Hi,

I am travelling and have picked some daylily pods, however they were still green. I let them sit on my windowsill for a few days and the pods started to wither and turn brown, but not dry. I split them open and found gorgeous black shiny seeds. :) Christmas morning feelings abounded. :)))

I've put the seeds in a paper envelope and they have wrinkled and lost their perfect shape.

In the FAQ it says to collect the pods when they are dry, which makes sense. Will I have any luck with the seeds from the green pods?

Thanks for any help.

Ola

RE: Daylily pods and seeds

I know everyone has a different way of doing things. This is just the way it works best for me. I pick the pods when they are still green, but not 'too' green. I put them in paper bags that I leave the top open so plenty of air circulates. When the pods turn brown, I take the seeds out, and put the seeds back in the paper bag to dry a bit more. It has always worked for me, but I like hearing all the different ways gardeners have of doing seed collecting.
