saving corn seeds and replanting the same year?

How soon will corn germinate? Will it germinate the same year? Can anyone tell me how long the dormancy period is and is there a way to speed the process?

I grew some indian corn and would like to reproduce it for fall decorations. It has been off of the stalk for 3 weeks now. Husks pulled back and drying inside of my basement.

Sorry, if you didn't allow the corn to completely dry (including whole plant) and mature on the stalks you will not have viable seed :(
I dont' know what your asking about germinating the same year...but if you mean can you sow seed now and get plants..yes you probably will but they will have no time to grow ears so late in the year. Besides corn need lots of heat and sun. Fall weather is cool and rainy.

Why wouldn't you use your Indian corn that you are hanging to dry as your fall decorations?

Thanks for the tips Vera. We intend to use the drying ears but fear that the stalks may be falling apart by then..soo..I had hoped to grow some more stalks....now as far as letting them dry completely on the stalk, I fear that I would have to wrap chciken wire around them to keep the critters away..But maybe I will try that next year..
