How to save a squash seed?

A volunteer squash appeared in my garden this spring. It appears to be butternut squash. No idea where the seed came from as I've never grown butternut. The plant is huge, healthy, and popping out the squash with no help from me or fertilizer. Normally I use lots of bunny manure so it may have found a pocket from years past. Anyways this plant loves my soil and I'd love to keep this strain around. I've already ate one of the squash and they are very good.

Can I save the seeds? Are squash one of those that need a pollinator? I did a forum search but everything came back "file not found"... not a 404 error so GW must have lost or deleted them.

Thank-you in advance for any help you can give!
