Marigold Seeds Are Fully White

Hello Everyone!

I'm very new to gardening, and as fall approaches I've been thinking about trying to save some seeds for next year. I've heard that marigold seeds are very forgiving (often why they're used as a teaching tool in schools, apparently!) so I thought that may be a good place to start.

As I've begun to collect the dried up flowers and lay out the seeds, I've noticed that about half my seeds are either all white, or mostly white with almost a bit brown on the side that's supposed to be black. (See picture.)

Just wondering if anyone has come across this before? Am I just being too eager and need to wait longer before picking off the dead flowers?? I haven't been able to find any information on it, and I'm wondering if it's worth saving these seeds for next year or if they're just throw-aways?

Any advice would be super helpful!

Thanks!
-Rachael
