A question about rose seeds

I am collecting Rugosa seeds for winter sowing in December. I have hips for white, red and pink roses, but the pink ones, after drying were not soft like the other hips. They were quite hard i.e. I had to use a knife to open them up. The seeds look fine, but are a little smaller than the white and red. Is it possible that I picked the hips too early? Are these any good or should I collect more mature hips. They were already red when I picked them.

where are the seeds on lantana? And how to know when they are mature enough for collection?

I read somewhere that the perfect stage to pick rosehips is when it's changing color from green to red-orange because it's easier to retrieve the seeds. More than that, I don't know. If I were you I'd hedge my bets, get some more mature rosehips and experiment with all of them. Have fun.
