Vitex Agnus-Castus (chaste tree)

My chaste tree has some berries on it for the first time, and I'd like to know how to tell when they're ready to harvest for the seeds, how to get the seeds out (or, ummm, are those things that I've been calling "berries" actually the seeds? See, I'm clueless!)

So please clue me in! What do I need to do to have healthy, viable seed from this interesting plant?

Someone had sent me seeds 2 years ago, which I had wintersown (2004). This year it bloomed, and currently has those pods as well. Now I can't remember for the life of me, but I could swear those pods were sent to me intact and I planted them that way. But, don't quote me on that. I plan on harvesting my pods if and when they ripen more, if that's what they'll do. Hopefully someone else with more experience will answer. Attached is a link to The Seed Site, showing the seed. I'm not sure if the pic at the bottom of the page is the pod, or what's inside the pod/berry...
