Do I have to wait?

Do I have to wait for the plants to completely die before taking seeds? I am wanting to clear off some of my flower beds while the weather is warm. I guess it is supposed to get cold around Thursday of this week. I have some zinnias which are still flowering. Can I pull these, stick them in a sack and let dry in there? I think the seeds are in that center part of the head, right? Thanks for help - Barb

Yes the seed are in the flower head, but you should pick the oldest dried out ones to save. Open them up and you should see flat somewhat oval shaped seed. They should be very dry before storing them. Here's a great page.
