zanzibar castor beans

I have two huge bunches of bean pods on my zanzibar bean

plants that are still green. I covered them for tonight's

low temps...and ..I'm wondering if they'll continue to ripen after the freeze. I thought of taking them off and

putting the stem in water.

How did they do? Make it through the freeze? If so then should be ready harvest by now I'd think.

I am trying to germinate my zanzibar castor beans. Last year I planted one rather late in the season. It did have a rather large seed pod on top. I harvested the pod and hope to grow them this year. Do the seeds have to look dark like other varieties in order to grow? Any advice would be appreciated.
