Peppers: Extremely Stupid Situation...

I made the mistake of leaving my container garden to my relatives for the last three months which meant that my 8 cayenne pepper plants, 3 ancho poblano pepper plants and my tomatillo plants were left to mature on their own. My relatives weren't completely oblivious to the situation and took a couple of the cayenne pepper plants in for the winter to dry, but left the poblanos and a couple cayenne out. The peppers flew off the plant. I found many of them frozen laying around the roof (much to my dismay).

My problem is this:

I found a number of the peppers and tomatillos up on my roof (where my garden is, here in the Big City of Chicago) that were frozen by the winter. The seeds are still inside them. They have been up on my roof for the entire fall to winter season of weather.

Should I try to dry the peppers? Should I leave them up on the roof?

I'm a newb at saving seeds but my relatives did manage to save a lot of the cayenne pepper seeds.
