They are relatively large (maybe 1/4" to 3/8" in length?) kinda very rounded-arrowhead shaped, and quite flat, if I remember correctly. And kinda tan or cream coloured. Not sure how they are attached, since I bought the seeds (gosh, those things are expensive!), but I suspect that they would be attached to the bottom of the fluffy stuff. The stick at the bottom does sound like some kind of daisy family seed, but doesn't sound like the gerbera seeds I bought. I don't believe they need light to germinate, though. Now that picture looks like the little fans as I call them.The little stem thing at the bottom is fairly tiny on mine but the rest looks the same.

You're welcome. I didn't think I'd find a picture. Well, they seem to have short shelf-lives (which explains why they are so hard to find), so sow them ASAP, and I've found on the net that if they don't germinate within about 20 days (warm, I presume), they are probably not viable (which never stops me from waiting a little longer, though). A simple way to tell with daisy-relatives (and many other kinds of plants) if they may be viable or just husks, is to gently bend the stick thing below the fluff (ie. the seed itself), and see if it bends easily (if it goes "crack", then it >>was

I find that most on my plants have been those little bendable splintery things, no viable seed. I went through a lot of flowers just to get a couple of swollen, firm seed. Some years, I didn't get any.

I would like to know if thes Gerbera flowers bloom all summer? Thinking about getting me some so I can enter them in the fair in late Aug
