shade plants from seed

| I'd like to include the following plants in my shade garden this summmer: lungworts, spiderworts, foxgloves, and columbine. To give myself something to do over the winter I would like to plant some of them from seed. My questions are...when lungworts and spiderworts are grown from seed will they bloom the first year? Any idea where I can buy the seeds? When planting columbine and foxglove from seed can I sew them directly in the garden? Thanks in advance. |

Columbine and foxglove both volunteer generously for me so those should be ok to either winter sow in containers or direct sow if you have lots of seeds. I have never had any volunteer seedlings from my lungwort so I'm guessing those might take a little more effort to grow from seed. I have seeds from my columbine I could send you. The flowers are purple/blue. Email me if you would like some. I didn't save any seeds from my foxglove. |

| Hi, Lisa. I'm going to try some shade gardens this spring, too. I have a few types of Columbine seeds and white foxglove, too, if you want some. I've winter sown them for the past few years in 2 liter containers, and they did great. I think I still have your address or you can stop by. Let me know. Cathy |
