Planting very closely around base of maple tree - dry shade

Let me see if i can explain... I have a very small circular cement edged garden bed in my lawn, with a youngish maple tree in the middle of it. The diameter of the bed is only about 40-50cm wide.

As the maple is only young there is still quite a bit of bare soil surrounding its' trunk. Is there anything that i can plant at the base of this tree that will be able to handle the shade and dry soil ???

I would prefer the flowers to be white if there are any. Would liriope survive? What about hostas?

THANKS :)
