 o
outdoor use of grow lights ????

I have a wonderful plan for a beautiful shade garden. I have visions of tall ferns, hostas, caladium, trillium, lily of the valley, wild ginger, etc. I want to raise a two tiered bed and fill it with 'perfect' soil for the plants. My only problem is, that on the north side of my house, where this garden would go, the shade is deep...probaly too deep for the plants I want to grow. What I want to know is would 1000 watt metal halide FLOODLIGHTS provide enough light for shade plants. I know that indoors 1000watt MH lights provide enough light for an 8ft X 8ft area. Would MH floodlights outside do something similar? I'd deeply apreciate any info that anybody can share.

I have also been thinking about adding some kind of grow lights in a shade area so I can grow more colorful flowers.

Has anybody try grow lights outdoors?
Would it be better to have light on in the day time are night? Are doese it matter? Night would be good because I could light up part of woods at the same time I give light for growth.
