Lily of the Valley

I have what looks exactly like Lily of the Valley growing in my yard in shady areas with one exception. All descriptions I have seen of this plant says "white blooms". My blooms are white bells, yes, BUT they also have a "dipping" of bright green on the tip center of each little petal on the flower! Is it possible there are variations in color with these plants? Or is this truly a totally different flower?

Could it be snowdrops? Are they in bloom now? If so,it seems early for lily of the valley, although I don't know the difference in bloom times between our zones. But perhaps you have snowdrops - some have green tips on them. :) Dee

No it's definitely not a snowdrop. Snowdrop is teardrop shaped. Mine are definite bells. I have a photo of them if I could figure out how to upload it.

Hmm, okay, well then, how about spring snowflake? (leucojum vernum). Again, seems kind of early to me, but then again, zone differences and what not. Hoping the link works the first time this time! :) Dee

YOU FOUND IT!!! Thank you so much! I've grappled with trying to ID this plant for 9 years! No wonder I couldn't find it, I was searching for plants in my climate zone 8 and this one is designated for your zone 6! Ooh, that is strange. I guess where it grows on the North side of the house in the shade keeps it cool enough to pull it off. The original property owner must have brought them down from the north. Thanks again!

Yay! I didn't think of these off the top of my head because they are not blooming here in CT, while the snowdrops are, so those came to mind first. Secondly, it seems folks around me grow summer snowflakes (leucojum aestivum) more than they do the spring snowflakes. I just had to rack my brain a bit. Ooh, I'm so happy. I hardly ever ID anything correctly here, lol, even with a picture. Glad I finally was able to help someone! Enjoy them - they are beautiful, aren't they? :) Dee
