Need Shade plants -- I am in s.east PA

Hi

I live in S.E. PA and my deck is facing west. Our huge deck makes the area below very shady. It gets sun only just before sunset. There is an area in there, a corner like about 12 ft by 3 ft.

I need shade plants like ferns, hosta, and atleast one that can produce flower. Pls suggest a nice mix and mention names and sub-species too. And where to buy cheap?!:)

Thanks!--kris

You might post this question in the Pennsylvania forum - especially for recommendations to buy. Ferns and Hostas (hostas do flower) are readily available in stores like Home Depot. That would be your best value.

Other shade plants that flower include Hellebores, Impatiens (the annual kind), Epimediums, and Solomon's Seal.

Other shade perennials to consider are:

Aruncus dioicus - goatsbeard
Dicentra, various species - bleeding heart
Brunnera macrophylla - Siberia bugloss
Pulmonaria species and hybrids - lungwort
Astilbe
Corydalis
Anemone
Astrantia - masterwort
Tricyrtis - toadlily
