One part of my vegi garden only gets around 4 hours of sunlight a day and I never have had any luck growing things in this part of the garden. I have grown all kinds f squash there (winter/summer) and even tried carrots and leaf veggies (that did ok but not WOW)… what else can I grow there? I was thinking cabbage and/ or zucettas.
Thanks for any help

On the longest days of the year, my garden only gets about five or six hours of sunlight. Due to our fairly cool springs, most things don't get going really strongly until after those longest days, and still grow well into September when there is much less sun. I have grown lettuce, beans (both pole and bush), parsnips, beets, cucumbers, swiss chard, and kale. Of those, the cucumbers, parsnips, and swiss chard did the best I would say, but the beans and lettuce also did very well. The beets did pretty well but grew a lot more slowly than I thought they should. Mostly, I just find that things tend to take a lot longer to mature, so if your growing season is short you could have a problem. What sort of fertilizer did you use? Aaron |
