Suggestions for cold weather shade bushes

Posted by meredithchase (My Page) on

I have a home in southern Iowa and I need to plant some sort of shrub in a very shaded northern exposure. I have tried rhododendrons and they are failing. I need something that is fairly dense and gets up to 6 feet tall. It can get taller if they can be pruned. Any suggestions?

Daphne is my favorite, and very fragrant.

Also camellia scrubs do well in cold weather shade.
