Aucuba question

Wasn't sure where to post this - anyway I have 4 Aucubas on the right front side of my new house - I don't think they've been pruned or fertilized in a very long time so they are scraggly. My 1st question: Is there anything I can plant around them so the ground area does not look so bare? Someone suggested Boxwoods but the soil stays moist & gets very little sun in the spring & none in the summer. Also - can I do anything with the cuttings? I'm a real amateur - have looked on the net & gotten conflicting info. Any tips are appreciated :)
