shade with noon sun?

| I have a shady walled patio that manages to get hot and sunny for about an hour and a half, around noon. Because of our high altitude, the sun is very strong. Last year I grew fuscias in the sunniest area, but they didn't thrive.
During the sunny time, they would sulk, no matter how much water they got.
I definitely want trailing basket plants in the bright pink range. Could I manage with wave petunias, callabrachoa or verbena? Impatience will work, but it's not trailing. |

Hi dalhousiecalgary, Some fuchsias can take sun and some can't. The reason your Fuchsias were wilting is they couldn't take up moisture fast enough. The worst thing you can do is keep watering them. If they are in pots or baskets you could move them out of the sun for that hour and a half.
When it gets hot here I keep my Fuchsias a little on the dry side and mist the plants. Don't mist Fuchsias while in the sun, it will burn the leaves. The reason for keeping them on the dry side, you can cook the roots when they're really wet, been there, done that. Fuchsias are great, give them another try. Hope this helps some, A...... |

Hi again.
I should have said, because of the heat your Fuchsias were losing moisture faster then they could take it up. That's why they look wilted (sulking?) I have a bad habit of not finishing my sentences. :)\ A...... |
