I have an area where there is a 50 foot blue Spruce and 15 feet away is a Canadian Hemlock which is also 50 60 ft..

Both of these trees lower limbs were cut 9ft up , this allowed for more sunlight but it is still considered shady.

I have started my compost pile there as of last year .

I want to start in the fall to work the soil and build it up .

What currently grows are violets (wild) henbit or wild lamium (not sure), the 2 to 3 foot weed that gets white flower then purple berries.

A stray seed of some type of squash grew as well although it did not grow like it should have .

Is it possible to raise up a bed so that things grow well there regarding root room ?

I am fully willing to supplement water since it is not a large area .

So any input would be appreciated . I hope to start planting either next spring but that is too hopeful , it is more likely to be the following spring ..
