What to Plant With Bleeding Heart

totallyconfused

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem area that I've been dealing with for several years.

I have a long, narrow (3x25) northeast facing bed. In this bed I have two bleeding hearts (the large ones) that take up about 5 feet apiece. This is all fine and good until they die back in July. Then I am left with two 6 to 7 foot areas of bare mulch. I would like to plant something to fill in this area, but I'm not sure what will work. Because the bed is so narrow, anything planted in front or behind the bleeding hearts in early spring would end up under them by April. Expanding the bed is a possibility in the future, but not right now. I've already begun more expansion/renovation projects than I can deal with for this year. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
