How Close to a Bradford Pear Can I plant?

| Hi! I'm new to this forum, although not new to gardening. I'm about to start laying out my first shade bed and I'm wondering where should my bed end in relation to a Bradford pear? Do I have to go to the drip line or can I get in as close as 3-4 feet from the trunk? |

| As close as the roots will let you. You may find that the closer you get to the trunk, the harder it is to dig through the roots. |
