Groundcover battle: Who wins?

| We have a dry shade courtyard in our apt. building. There is no money for maintenance or to purchase larger plants. Parts get 2 hours of morning or afternoon sun, and then full deep shade the rest of the day. The grass is dying here.
Can vinca, pachysandra, sweet woodruff coexist here, or will one eventually overcome the other? Is English Ivy considered invasive in such a poor environment?
Recommendations most welcome!
Thanks!

All might co-exist, but they wouldn't look neat. ENglish Ivy would be dominant with the vinca standing a chance. I don't like it when ground covers merge. It looks sloppy. THe sweet woodruff is not evergreen, which is usually desirable for that situation. I'd go with Pachysandra.

I'd vote for vinca minor.

With a little more water, I'd go for Pachysandra. At the least it won't try to crawl out over the walls, and frankly, I find ivy and vinca a bit too sparse in coverage unless they get a lot of water in good soil. Vinca does have nice colorful flowers, but pachysandra has it for good foliage in my books. George

Check out Pachysandra Silver Edge. It will spread slower than regular pachysandra but makes a beautiful groundcover.

I sorta disagree btw. I like the way the battling ground covers look. I love the intermingling. I would not call it sloppy - I think of it as 'cottagy' or natural.

I have a bed where I'm letting sweet woodruff, dwarf crested iris, and wild ginger duke it out. None are evergreen but it does look pretty messy. English ivy will climb the building but as long as it's contained by cement you can trim it back. The dwarf mondo grasses might be nice in the area without having to be trimmed back all the time like ivy and vinca. I'm fighting both of these in my yard.

I have similar questions in a ditch area around my property. I have snow on the mountain doing much better then pachysandra. I am conderned about if they will out do the weeds. Any weed killer will kill them also.
