Suggestions for foundation plant for Large Hostas

Hi, I have some Honey Bell Hostas that have grown over 3' tall and which I am going to divide. I'm going to plant them in front corner of the yard, inside a 3-4' fence with English Ivy growing on the fence. This is a hard clay yard and this corner has been amended with lots of humus composted in place , built up with more organic and inert amendments and is just about ready to plant.

The hostas look spectacular, but they will disappear in the cold months. What would be a good foundation plant to put behind them which would be fun to look at throughout the winter months and grow quickly enough to help with privacy issues...say 6'+? This area is usually in mottled to full shade in spring/summer and partial sun the rest of the year. What would you suggest?

Also, I'm new here and was wondering if we shade people have our own trading forum? I'd like to trade some of the perennials I'll be dividing this year.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.
