Grass Substitute for Shade- Leptinella?

I have a small sloping lawn on the Connecticut shoreline(Zone 6) under a 60 foot oak tree - both the previous homeowners as well as we have struggled for years to establish a grass lawn. Dumped bags of lime, aerated, you name it - am finally giving up. Currently have moss and patches of pathetic grass. Searching the forum, I found suggestions to try stepables.com where recommendations can be obtained for appropriate conditions. I am considering leptinella, as it also appears dog-resistant. Haven't been able to find too much on the success of using it. I am looking to fill in 2 strips on either side of my front walk - one is 5 feet wide by 30, the other is 8 feet wide by 30. Has anyone tried this plant as a groundcover in similar conditions? Does it work well? What are its bad points, if any?
