| I cleared out the big trees that were creating total shade in my back garden. I love the sun, except in one area where I have a camellia, hellebores, and beautiful tiarella. I planted a cornus florida cherokee brave in the middle of the bed, but it is very small. Thus the camellia and tiarellas, especially, are exposed to full afternoon sun from about 2:00 on, and it gets hot here.
My question: will these plants survive for a year or two until the cornus and neighboring crapapple grow large enough to shade them? I don't want to move them. Do I need to shelter them in the meantime? Does anyone have any suggestions about sheltering them?
They are next to a little patio, and I have been considering fencing them off with willow-type fencing, even though it would cut off my view. I've also just considered using an umbrella and even bought a stand for this purpose--a friend said she had to do that for a couple of years, and it worked.
