suddenly everyone is sick

I am freaking out here. Tons of species are sick in my shade garden. It looks like my columbines have some sort of leaf spot, the leaves on my turtleshead are turning black around the edges, leaves on my bleeding hearts are getting crispy around the edges and then wilting, the smut is back on the only one of my three expensive double flowering anemonellas to have made it from last year's smut attack, and despite looking big and healthy otherwise the leave on my fern leave bleeding heart are yellow (kinda cool looking actually, but it had been suggested t me that this is a result of too much lyme?), and some growth on one of my tall meadow rues is yellow. This is a six year old garden and all but the smut is new. What's going on and what can I do about what seems to be lots of different problems?

Do you have county extension agents up there? If so, get ahold of them and get each plant diagnosed. A lot of extension agencies offer this service. Good luck.

Sorry, I'm not American. Is MN Maine? In that case, all the rain the East has been getting could have something to do with it. Try spraying with a baking soda solution: 1 tsp. baking soda and a couple of drops of baby shampoo or dish detergent in one liter of water.

I am curious.
How about the trees?
Are your trees showing any unusual signs such as deterioration or they look like they are eaten???
please check as if it is the rain then the trees should be affected too!
Also let us know!! thanks.

Janet, MN is Minnesota, so not part of the deluge out east..

Terrestrial man, trees are fine.

Hate to be a pest but
I should have said do the leaves on the trees look eaten or have irregular holes in them.
thanks for your feedback.

Are you growing any of these plants under or in close proximity to Black Walnut trees? The juglone toxin in the soil will cause eventual decline in many perennial and annual plants.

Have you had alot of rain? There are alot of fungal diseases that overwinter and can be spread by rain splashing on the soil and reinfecting the leaves, and can show up on plants when there is too much wet and humid weather. Brown edges can be leaf scorch from sun if the leaves were wet, or a fungal attack. Anthracnose is a leaf disease that shows up in wet weather too. Brown spots, or leaf curling and drop, are symptoms of this. Yellowing leaves may be a symptom of overwatering.

Columbines are prone to leaf miners that leave lighter colored trails or spots on the foliage.
