Virginia bluebells

| I live in MN. and I am looking for info on this plant I saw at a garden center. It is Mertensia Virginica bluebells has anyone had good luck and dose it grow well? |

| It's an easy plant to grow. I have one area that is almost solide with it, simulating how it is found in nature. It seeds readily. After it sets seed it goes dormant until the next year and is one of the first to emerge. |

| I've had a bit of a hard time getting this established. I now have three plants that have come back for the third year for me, but they are rather small. However, this is such a pretty plant that I feel it was worth the effort, and now that they seem safely established (she says with fingers crossed) I may add a few more. I want to get a good-sized area filled with them. Mine are planted in a (deciduous) shade garden under an oak tree. Keep in mind that they go dormant after blooming. :) Dee |
