Mine is in the shade of a hemlock tree. It gets afternoon heat from the sun and is dry a lot of the time. Totally opposite of the required conditions. It has spread quite a bit. Maybee just trying for survival.

I have mine planted in a northwest location. It doesn't get any sun until late afternoon. This is its second year in the ground. I have about six plants now - started with two - so I'm keeping an eye on it so it doesn't spread all over. I wasn't sure if it would survive the winter here but it seems to be doing just fine.

Mine get shade from Pine trees and a Red-Twig dogwood, therefore, it may get some morning sun and shade the rest of the day. They flower beautifully.

I have my Turtlehead planted in shade, and they are doing just fine. I started with 2 plants, and now have about 9 plants after a couple of years, so it's spreading, but slowly. Inspite of being in so much shade, it does bloom for me, which doesn't happen with some of my other plants.

Had it in dry shade and it bloomed year after year, but did not get bigger. Moved it into moist shade spot and the plant is thriving-multiple stalks this year.
