Apartment shade garden ideas

I have a small apartment patio. It is very shady, bottom floor with trees covering the area. I live in a Zone 8 area usually warm and humid and occasinally freezes in the winter.

What I'm looking to do is make a small rain forest type of environment. I'm not a big flower guy but some color won't hurt. I do hanging pots and can build large troughs and use large pots. Just looking for ideas. Thanks in advance. :)

Hostas do well in pots and shade as do impatience and New Guinnie impatience.
