Need help identifying

gerbera

I've had this plant for a few years - inherited from a friend. I've looked through my encyclopaedias and plant books and simply can't find out what species it is. It's a shade plant - or it prefers indirect sun - and it has a red stem with robust (almost succulent-like) bright green smooth leaves. It roots easily from cuttings (much like a succulent) and would grow long leaved vines if I didn't regularly prune it to keep it full. I keep it indoors in winter, so I don't know if it's a perennial. I don't have a flickr account, so I can't post a picture...but any clue would help.

Thanks in advance,

Gerbera
