Something similar to Ligularia but can handle dry

My sis is in the process of developing a garden along the back of her house -- east facing, zone 5. One section is shaded by a large maple (perhaps a silver maple, not sure) and does get quite dry through the summer months. Though my sis likes the look and height of Ligularia, my understanding is that it doesn't handle drying out well. Alternative ideas?

Ligularia needs moist soil. You can try black jetbead, Carolina allspice, Japanese kerria. A bunch of the viburnums are also good in dry shade.
