 o
shade 1/2 the year and sun the rest

What low plants will tolerate a few hours of mid day sun in the summer months and then shade in the fall and winter? This is at the front of my house near the door so I dont want to use deciduous plants. Usually, I just replace my summer annuals with shade annuals when the sun shifts in fall, but now I'm hoping to plant something more permanent. Liriope works for me in morning sun but not afternoon. I tried sword fern with success but it became too tall and invasive. Thanks for any suggestions you have.

Maybe caladium or heuchera. I have better luck with red foliage plants in areas with more shade.
