Moisture recommendations for shade

I'm just going this morning to pick up a long-awaited Kirengeshoma palmata Koreana. Directions are moist shade, neutral to acid soil.

I've got everything but the moisture -- it will go at the edge of the oak woods, with aucuba that flourishes there. Of course I can water it daily, as I would any new shrub, but need suggestions for when we're on vacation next month.

What about those water-retaining crystals -- would they work long-term? Soaker hose? Water barrel with slow leak?

What haven't I thought of? If it works, I'll try astilbes again!

Pat
