They've gone dormant and you're probably correct guessing it's this summer's weather patterns. Mine were cut down this afternoon. Normally, they get sorta slimy and gooshy when going into dormancy. This year they are crispy. I'm not worried...it's close to their normal period of decline and they're tough little buggers. They'll be back to greet us next spring.

Thanks Tricia I will get to them first thing tomorrow! I also have lots of babies that popped up and need to be moved. Should they be planted deeper than they were growing from seed?

I'm actually surprised at how good some of my bleeding hearts look now. They are usuallly dormant by now, but not only are they still around, but look okay considering the heat/drought we've been having.

It's kind of strange this year.
In shady unwatered bed, they are still green and upright. In shady watered bed they are yellow and dead. I cut them today in a morning.

But D. eximia still blooming and look fresh as in a spring.
I'm learning to appreciate this plant more and more.
