Gardening in Shade

wanted shade loving flowering vine -zone 6-7 tolerant

I have (ironcally) a shade drenched south facing wall for which I am trying to find a shade lving vine that flowers. I am in love with the climbing hydrangea but have heard they really don't bloom well without sun. the only sun itis spot gets is through the oak and evergreen trees and direct sun hits around 5PM (in the summer). would wisteria work? also how about autumn clematis? I have seen one posting that suggested someone had good luck with this in somewhat heavy shade. also what about trumpet vine or any of the less invasive honeysuckle?

Of the ones you mention, the hydrangea will likely work the best. Any flowering plant needs sun to bloom heavily, but vines which are more adapted to shade conditions - like the hydrangea - will grow and look better even when not in bloom.

For something less common, look for Holboellia or Schisandra, both shade loving flowering vines.

Sweet Autumn Clematis is reputed to do well in shade. It is a fall bloomer and is fragrant. However, it could be invasive (by reseeding).
