New to Shade Gardening

I have an itty bitty yard that is completely surrounded and well shaded by my neighbors' trees. The yard gets little to no sun during the day.

The only plants growing sucessfully are some hostas planted by the previous owner and some spring bulbs because there is little to no leaves when they are at their best. The old rose bush is getting transplanted to my folks yard so I don't cry over it's sad state. My 2 attempted experiments with tomatoes in tubs have been a bust. This year I gave them to a neighbor and they have already tripled in size in less than 2 weeks. Even grass has a struggle.

I am looking for suggestions for herbs (besides mints), veggies, flowers & interesting foliage to grow in beds to surround the perimeter of our yard.
