winter foliage in a window box?

| Hi everyone,
I'm looking for something to plant to have some foliage in our north facing window box for the winter. I'm hoping for something either low growing or hanging so it doesn't block our window.
I'm on the central California coast, so we have mild winters, but it does occasionally freeze. And that spot gets no sun at all except in the very middle of summer when it gets very little.
Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated, thanks, linda |

| I've seen people place various evergreen boughs, pinecones, and other dried seed heads and such in windowboxes. Anything that could be used to make a wreath could be strategically placed in a windowbox. It is quite lovely and you don't have to worry about killing anything. I think I'll give it a try this season... Jenny |

| Sorry I didn't see this earlier! With our mild winters, there's all kinds of stuff you can grow. Begonias, lamium (I love the white-leafed, pink flowering Lamium maculatum and the yellow-variegated 'Anne Greenaway' L. maculatum), and impatiens would all do beautifully. Good luck! |
