best way to overwinter caldiums

Hi all,

What is the best way to overwinter caladium? We had frost warnings so I brought my plants in. This is the first year I've grown caladium. I had started to cut down on watering them hoping they would start to go dormant although several heavy rains foiled that plan and I had to quick get them in before I lost them altogether. Should I just let the soil dry out? Do I need to take them out of the pot/soil and pack the bulbs in sand or something? I assume I should let the leaves wither on their own so they send energy to the bulb. They were cheap clearance bulbs from one of the big box stores but I have so enjoyed them this year I hope to keep them going for a repeat performance next year.

I appreciate any info/tips you can give me. Thanks. mmo
