Will any flowering perennials grow with vinca?

Posted by Rachel77 7 TX (My Page) on

I have a small area that I'm thinking of filling in with vinca. The spot gets shade pretty much all day. Are there any flowering perennials that I can add to sort of "pop up" from the vinca throughout this area? I've never tried Astilbe. I was thinking of trying some. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Rachel

RE: Will any flowering perennials grow with vinca?

Hi Rachel,

I had six or seven daiffodil plantings pop up among my vinca at my previous house. It was very pretty in the spring. You do then have to accept the die-back of the foliage, but I thought it actually looked oay.

I didn't add any summer flowers before I moved. Astilbe might be nice, but I wonder if a flower with less foliage might look best. Vinca can really take over any area; that's why I wonder. Some allium might grow in the shade. I'll try to see which ones and get back to you.
