What is this bush with red berries?

Found a couple of these growing in a park in an outlying suburb of St. Louis. They were maybe 8 foot tall growing in full sun and the berries were easier to crunch than crab apples. What are they?

All my good identification books are for trees but I'm hunting for bushes to plant under a few black walnuts now.
