Ideas for 30' tall containers?

I just purchased four, deep red, square, 30" tall( top diameter 14", bottom 10"), planters. We live in the Bay Area (Sunset 14), but the planters are shaded after 10am each morning. I love the planters, but I'm a newbie at gardening so I'm at a loss as to what to plant. I love color and would ideally like to have some color (at least leaves) year-round. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to plant? Thanks so much for any ideas.

I just dropped into this forum and saw that the post just below yours was over a year old with no responses. If you don't get answers here (which looks likely), post your question in the Container Gardening Forum. They'd be likely to know what does best in containers.

Here is a link that might be useful: Container Gardening Forum
