Choosing flowers for enclosed corridor

I just moved into an apartment in Brooklyn that has a small garden. About 1/4 of the space is a long 5'by 25' corridor that has ~ 1' borders on the north and south sides of the corridor. The space has good western exposure, but a large tree, tall fences and the apartment limit eastern, southern and midday exposures. My question is this - what type of flowers would thrive in these conditions?

RE: Choosing flowers for enclosed corridor

I am new to this but have a project to decorate a business. They have suggested using metal planters. I like them, but have never used them. Any thoughts on how long these last? Will they rust or will thay stay looking nice for a long time? Thanks for the help. I've tried to link to the site for reference.

Here is a link that might be useful: metal planters
