Italian Cypress Trees in Containers

I would like to plant some Italian Cypress Trees in containers and am looking for some direction as to how to do this successfully. Living in Southern California (Orange County), the climate is perfect, but the soil in my yard is not (super hard compressed clay). So I want to try the container method with one objective being to try to limit their growth to 10' - 15' tall (vs. the typical 30' - 40' tall).

If anyone has experience with this, please share. What I am looking for is tips on container size and material, soil mixture, particular species of IC, and any other tips. Thanks!

Sorry I can't help. I'm in Pennsylvania, myself. Kinda quiet in here. I hope there are still Urban Gardeners out there somewhere.
