I'd probably plant something heat & drought tolerant, like a lavender, a Salvia variety, a cenizo (native TX sagebrush), or a rosemary.

And I'd make sure to use a soil mix which has water-holding capacities enhanced, and a *white* or very light gray pot that is self-watering (has a water reservoir at the bottom).

Take your questions to your local garden center experts, outlining all the potential qualities you seek, like color, fragrance, texture, evergreen foliage, fruit, butterflies, whatever. They will do their best to fill your need, ........... and sell you a larger container.

They also sell self-contained water fountains, water falls, other family amusements and bird attracters.
