Where's the BEST????

I'm new to GW. I just bought a new home last winter. I began gardening in early summer 2004--AND I CAN'T STOP!!!
So, now that we are covered in 7+ inches of snow here in PGH(GO STEELERS!!) I have been looking for mailorder nuseries on the internet. Please clue me in on where you feel I will get the best priced, most healthy, large sized, etc. plants. Also, I am a stickler for anything unusual and new. |

I haven't personally used them, but people always recommend Stark Brothers. Stark Bros. Baker Creek Heirloom seeds have alot of interesting varieties of seeds. I ordered from them last year and had great germination. www.rareseeds.com Also, check out www.gardenwatchdog.com. It is a great resource to look up different nurseries and see how good they are. People post their experiences with the companies on there.

If you are looking for unusual, you probably won't find exceptional prices or large plants either. But you will get hard-to-find consistently healthy plants from www.heronswood.com, www.collectorsnursery.com, www.plantdelights.com, www.joycreek.com. Another with a strong emphasis on shrubs is www.forestfarm.com

www.Lonniesbulksees.com just dropped thier prices to $1.00 per large pack of flower seeds. They are high germination seeds in great packaging.

Thanks SeedFreak! I can't wait to get my new seeds. And, THANK YOU MorZ8--I was up half the night browsing at Heronswood. I now have a huge wishlist from there. They have sooo much that I was looking for. I appreciate everyone's input. mgood

I can recommend Busse Gardens (MN), Fairweather Gardens (NJ?), and Forest Farm (OR?) as three of the best catalog/on-line sources I've used. All send good-sized to huge plants (Forest Farm will even ship trees in 5 gallon containers) at reasonable prices. Forest Farm has the broadest variety of the three, but all have good depth of selection. I've ordered from many nurseries, and these three are the best. I also really like Song Sparrow--good plants, fair-for-the-quality prices, and exquisite catalog.
