I've noticed over the years that most of my plants that have been installed by garden center staff do not thrive, primarily shrubs.

Is it simply because they just dig the hole, insert the plant, and back fill with no amendments?

When I do my own planting, following the usual guidelines about size of hole, amendments, etc., my plants thrive about 90 percent of the time.

Have others experienced this problem?
