Ube purple yam of the Phillipines or Ubi in Japan
Does anyone know where I can get just a few alive enough to plant out? I have tried every philipino gorcery store I cn find if they have them the are frozen and dead.

I think that you are seeking Dioscorea alata, go to the following: http://immigrantfarming.org
(National Immigrant Farming Initiative) click on Resource Centre, and choose Seed Sources.
This will give you several links; hopefully you will find what you’re looking for.
